> Date: September 2, 2024
Produced by Wonder Project and Rai Cinema in collaboration with Lega Serie A, with product placement by Pulsee Luce&Gas, Simone Aleandri’s documentary film starring Seydou Sarr premiered on September 2 at the Venice Film Festival
during the 21st edition of the Giornate degli Autori in the Confronti section, and aired on Rai 3 on September 4 at 11:20 p.m.
One year after the global success of Matteo Garrone’s *Io capitano*, the film’s star, Seydou Sarr, tells his story in a documentary that takes him on a journey across Italy to meet his idols. Seydou is torn between his dream of becoming a soccer player and the reality of a film career that has been as unexpected as it has been explosive. The issues of racism, both on and off the field, and the challenges of being a young Senegalese man in Italy are explored in an open dialogue with Serie A soccer stars and legends, including: Francesco Totti, Christian Panucci, Ciro Ferrara, Bernardo Corradi, Danilo Luiz Da Silva, Yacine Adli, Lameck Banda, Paulo Dybala, Junior Messias, and Maduka Okoye. And featuring Omar Daffe.
A journey through six Italian cities (Milan, Turin, Rome, Genoa, Lecce, and Udine) to explore identity, a sense of belonging, and, above all, the fight against racial prejudice, which unfortunately remains a form of discrimination in our society today.
